| Should I tell my teacher and the kids in my class that I have epilepsy? |
| This can be a good idea. You and your parents should decide if telling your teachers and classmates is right for you. If you do decide it’s right, tell them what epilepsy is and tell them that they should not be scared. Let them know what happens when you have a seizure. Tell them what they should do to help you. Make sure they know that kids with epilepsy are just like other kids, except that they sometimes have seizures. Click here to learn about Care Cards. You can use them to share information. If you decide telling people at school is a good idea, you and your parents should fill out the cards together. They tell your teacher and babysitter what to do if you have a seizure while you are with them. |

| Should I tell my friends I have epilepsy? |
| It’s a good idea, if you think you might have a seizure while you are with them. If they know what to expect, they may be able to help if a seizure happens. Keep in mind that some of your friends may have their own health problems. Some may have asthma or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Others may have diabetes. It can be hard to talk about these things, too. If you tell them about your epilepsy, they may feel more like telling you about their health problems. Remember, the more you share about your epilepsy, the more help your friends can be if you do have a seizure. |
